Our projects

Our projects

Here is what we are already doing and/or planning to do in the immediate future (in no particular order).

1. We want to start working on commencement and leaving of loneliness (e.g., in the event of lockdown or quarantine). What happens when we are placed in a situation of forced solitude/loneliness, what do we do when we know our loneliness is about to end. These projects will be led by Eva Duda.

2. We are looking for participants in a project of the relationship between disability and suicide; we are interested in disability as a potential source of suicidal ideation/wishes and disability as a result of a suicide attempt. This is led by Justyna Ziółkowska and Dariusz Galasinski.

3. We are interested in disability in other contexts, in particular issues of intimacy and romantic relationships. These projects will be led by Marta Głowacka.

4. We want to explore loneliness in migration, we are particularly interested in the gender perspective, at the moment focusing masculinity. This project is led by Natalia Letki and Dariusz Galasiński

5. We have started a project on loneliness in polar expeditions. In autumn, Konrad Opaliński went to Svalbard in order to interview polar researchers. Hopefully, he will be going there again in spring.

6. There are number of projects related to death and dying, led by Justyna Ziółkowska and Dariusz Galasinski. Parts of them are related to the Handbook of Language of Death and Dying, edited by JZ and DG for Bloomsbury. They are projects on:

· VSED (voluntary stopping of eating and drinking). Part of this project is a PhD prepared by Paulina Grzybek;

· COVID-19 obituaries – analysis of online memorials

7. In the near future, we would like to start a project on long Covid and CFS (chronic fatigue syndrome). The research will be led by the member of the Centre who will join us in April.

8. Magdalena Witkowicz’s PhD project about depression and work, where she is interested in absence from work. We are looking for research participants who were on sick leave because of depression.

9. We are working on a number of publications resulting from these or previous projects. They are on:

· masculinity and illness;

· suicide letters addressed to children;

· experience of touch in epidermolysis bullosa;

· loneliness in film;

· representations of masculinity in the series Chłopaki do wzięcia (Lads for the taking);

· disability and migration

The project "Integrated Program for the Development of the University of Wrocław 2018-2022" co-financed by the European Union from the European Social Fund
